Last Week and the Week Ahead
I designed a template for me to post my weekly workouts and calorie totals. This is a little more fun than looking at my heart rate monitor each week, although I’m posting those as well. If you like the template, I made it in Illustrator and if you’d like the AI file just let me know and I’ll e-mail it to you.
Last week (3/7 – 3/13), I worked out for 7:23 and burned a total of 2,905 calories. If you look at my chart up there you’ll notice that I burned 1,222 calories on Friday alone and that is not a typo! I kinda amazed myself that day.. I got up early and did some strength training before work, took Pepper for a walk after work and then spent about 2 hours in the gym since it was Greg’s long run day and I had to wait until he finished. I did a 5k that night and a little bit on the cross trainer and elliptical.
The next morning my right knee felt a little off so I’m taking a few days off to let my body rest. My knee felt a little funky on the crosstrainer, but I figured it was nothing so kept on which was a mistake. I need to listen to my body and I won’t be using the crosstrainer for awhile. I’ve always heard that they are easier on your knees, but mine always feel weird when I’m on that machine. The elliptical is much, much easier on me so I’ll be using it more often.
These were the goals I had set for last week:
1. Do at least 3 workouts before work. I say this all the time and don’t do a one, but I’m determined this week! I’d like my weekly burn to be over 3,000.
I actually got up before work three times and worked out! So proud of myself! My weekly burn was so close to 3,000, but I was about 100 calories short. I still consider this a huge accomplishment.
2. Run a 5k. I didn’t hit my goal last week of running 5 miles, so I’d like to at least do a full 5k this week.
I ran a treadmill 5k in 36:29. Not as good as my last time, but I wasn’t pushing as hard as I did then.
3. Walk Pepper for at least fifteen minutes each day. It’s not fair that he doesn’t get daily exercise just because the weather isn’t nice. He has a lot of energy and fifteen minutes is not a lot of time to help him get some out.
I didn’t get to walk him every day and it was pouring rain on Wednesday and Thursday. I tried to make up for it and took him on an extra long walk on Friday. He still got a lot more exercise than he normally does and his behavior totally reflected it.
Not too bad! With all the exercise and watching my diet (I’ve been keeping detailed food logs over here at The Daily Plate if you wanna check those out), my body has changed rather quickly. I was getting ready for work the other day when I saw definition and lines I’d never seen before! I don’t know about you, but I’m always flexing in the mirror and it gets me so excited to workout! For the longest time I never thought my body could be where I wanted. How could it ever get there when I would exercise for a couple of weeks and then quit and still eat out almost every night? You really have to focus and do some hard work in both your workouts and diet to see the change you want. I love looking strong and being able to do things I never thought I could.
My goals this week:
1. Keep going with my food diary. I’ve tracked everyday for awhile now and I’d like to keep that momentum up!
2. Do more yoga. My knee is a little weird right now so I want to take it easy for awhile.
3. Pack a healthy lunch this week and post them here. The campus I work at is on spring break so there are no dining halls open this week.
…………………………………………….
This isn’t an official weigh-in, but just some photos of where I’m at now. My weight actually hasn’t changed much, but I’m sure I’ve lost inches and gained muscle. Check the photos out after the cut.
Are you seeing those lines?! This has me so incredibly excited to keep going. It’s almost painful to take rest days because I’m so motivated, but I know that they are very necessary.
Is this really my stomach? I swear I thought those lines were just funky shadows so I walked to different mirrors in the house to check them out but they are really there! It may look subtle in the photos, but the change I see is really amazing. While my stomach still isn’t completely flat, I actually feel like I am capable of having abs and that’s a wonderful feeling!
I’ve taken a couple of days off work and am heading out to go thrifting. I absolutely love it and never get a chance to do it much anymore now that I’m working full-time. I’ll post any good or creepy things I find.. there are some treasures in Tennessee thrift stores for sure!

Damn! Let’s hear it for a good effing week!
And I love your chart: colors, circles, font, “rest day” … visualizing this stuff is so inspiring/motivating.
(PS: I’ve totally reached that point in my fitness that I’m constantly checking myself out in the mirror. It’s the best … I think I’m gonna dedicate a blog entry to the benefits of a modicum of narcissism
)
Your week was pretty darn impressive as well!
Haha, you so should make a blog entry about it! I can’t pass a mirror without checking my arms out and if no one is around I’ll do a lil’ flex. haha!
congrats! your body looks more and more amazing
you’re such an inspiration!
btw, what’s the difference between an elliptical and a crosstrainer? I always thought it’s the same, even google shows the same pictures for both…
Thank you so much!
I’ve been calling it a crosstrainer, but apparently it is an “arc trainer”. This is the exact one at my gym: http://www.cybexintl.com/products/cardio/750A/intro.aspx
oh i see, i have never heard of an ‘arc trainer’. but it looks like it’s basically the same as elliptical, but you draw your knees to your chest much more, no wonder it’s hard on your knees! it sounds like one of these huge and heavy stair climbers at my gym that make my legs die after 10 minutes
The funny thing is that all I’ve heard is how much easier it is on your knees! haha. The stair climbers KILL ME! Omg.. they are insane.
You’re doing FANTASTIC! keep it up and show those goals who’s boss! <3
Thank you!
Check out those guns! Holy crap! I can really tell a difference!
You are doing so well with your goals and working out! I’ve been a total slacker this week…hopefully after the move, I can get my routine back!
When I looked in the mirror I couldn’t believe it! I kept flexing and knew I had to take a photo. haha.
I’ve only worked out once this week since my knee was feeling kind of weird. I’d rather be out for a week than push it and end up having to take months off.
You’ll get your routine back in no time. Moving is no joke.. it’s rough and you’re trying to get used to all the new things going on. You’ll come back better than ever! :]
