Calories Burned

I get a lot of hits to this site from search terms asking for calories burned during a certain workout dvd. I have a ton of these dvds so I decided to start a page that lists how many calories I’ve burned during each one. Keep in mind that I’m a 5’5″, 135 pound female so it will be different for each person, but this will give you a good estimate.
Also, I really suggest getting a heart rate monitor so you know exactly what you’re burning during each workout session. I have the Polar FT7 (goes to an Amazon affiliate link) and it’s easy to set-up, comfortable and a really great monitor. I love the fact that it stores 99 workouts and gives you a total weekly calorie burn. I’ve also heard that the Polar FT4 is awesome, plus it’s a little cheaper and comes in better colors.

how many calories does jackie warners 20min. full body power circuit burn.
I’m not sure as I haven’t done that one yet. Her 30 minute full body power workout burns 295 so I’d guess maybe 230 or so?
How many calories would I burn using 3lb weights for the full NMTZ workout? I weight 138lbs and I do it 5-6 times a weeks with 60 minutes on the treadmill.
It really just depends on how hard you’re working! I use a heart rate monitor to get my exact calorie burn.. you should look into one. They are definitely worth the investment! I have the Polar FT7 watch.
Have you ever tried Lindsay Brin’s workouts? She’s great too! If you are looking for a change up–you would like her too!
I have not heard of her, but I will definitely check some of her videos out! I just did a search for her and found her blog. Her body looks amazing for just having a baby! I watched one of her videos on her blog and she seems really sweet too. Thanks so much for the recommendation!

I luv bob Harper yoga for the warrior! So tough but it’s a great 60 mins of sweat! I also do body by bethenney. More intermediate as bob’s is more advanced but it’s a good 40 min yoga workout. U stated bob Harper yoga for the warrior only burns 251 calories yet bethenney claims body by bethenney burns 300! That’s crazy to me! Any explanations?
I’m not sure. I have never done the Body By Bethanney dvd so I have no idea what it is like. If you can get a better calorie burn in only 40 minutes then go for it! I will have to check it out for sure!
does your actual weight matter? i know that if you’re a certain weight, your burn a luittle bit more.
I’ve heard that the heavier you are the more calories you burn so that’s why I put my height and weight here since it can change things a bit.
Have you ever done any Dennis Austin workout videos??? If so will you post about them!
I have a looong time ago. I will definitely post them if I do! I really liked her workouts when I did them so I will have to see what she has out now.
If you do Denise Austin’s Yoga Buns, please post. Also, what is your daily meals regimen if you have one. I have recently implemented a standard breakfast and lunch. I want to make sustainable adjustments to better living rather than short term sacrifices. Thanks!
If I come across it I will definitely do it! I don’t have one at the moment since I am breast feeding. I just started tracking my food again though to make sure I’m getting enough protein and not overdoing it on sodium/cholesterol/etc. You can see what I ate while doing Ripped In 30 though here: http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/diary/who/adorabledamage/ – just look at the dates from May 16 to June 10. Does anyone know how to find how many calories Im losing? I’m on first week of ripped in 30 and I’m 173 pounds
It is probably very close to what I burned.
I am using MFP (myfitnesspal) and logging food and exercise. I am just curious about 2 things. I have a HRM (sportline) w/chest strap. What I burn in a workout or walking shows higher on the HRM then it does if I find that same exercise on MFP. Which is more accurate – MFP or HRM? Second question: Am I supposed to eat all my workout calories? Some days I can eat them all and other days I just fall short.
Definitely your HRM. I always got different readings with my HRM and what the treadmill said too so I know it is confusing.
I stayed within 1600-1800 calories depending on how hungry I was. It sounds like you’re doing great!

I haven’t picked it up yet but I will! I bought Tread and Shred and Killer Buns & Thighs so I will try and get those up soon. I weigh a little more now since having my baby (150lbs), so I will make sure to note that.
How many calories did you burn doing the 15 minute yoga abs by Bob Harper?

I’m glad you found it helpful! I haven’t done that dvd, but I looked it up and it’s 30 minutes long so I would compare it to Six Week Six Pack which burned 281 calories with a 5lb weight (not sure if Killer Abs uses weights or not though). Hope that helps!

I LOVE Jillian Workouts and I use Sparkpeople.com to track my calories burned. I do not have a heart rate monitor yet, so I found this page most helpful! I am 5’6″ and 147 lbs. (a little bit bigger) but I can guesstimate using your results. I did notice they run similar to sparkpeople’s count, but I love to actually see someone post their information.
I just did Jillian’s Killer Abs, Level 1 for the first time. I was looking to see if anyone had an estimate for the calories burned. I see that it isn’t listed yet. I can tell you that it was a non stop workout, more intense than 6 Week 6 Pack, but not as much cardio. If anyone does Killer Abs AND has a heart rate monitor, please post your results.

You are welcome! I’m glad it’s helpful to you. That’s great the the calorie count is similar on SparkPeople. Sometimes it can be way off on those sites (it definitely is on The Daily Plate which I use). I don’t have Kill Abs but I will definitely put it up here if I do get it. I can’t imagine something harder than 6 Week 6 Pack! That workout killed me.
I did just buy Jillian’s Killer Buns & Thighs and will be posting it soon. It looks tough too!
OMG! I did Level 2 – Killer Abs and I was so sore for 3 days – no joke! I felt lower ab muscles I never felt before. LOL The only recommendation I have it that some of the moves pulled on my lower back (I have a slight curvature of the spine), so I modified some moves with bent knees. If you do Killer Abs, it is the moves on your back with legs extended (I bent mine). Again, no heart monitor yet, so I can’t give a calorie burn count. But I will as soon as I do.

I am 5’2 and weigh about 155 lbs. How many calories estimate do you think i’d burn in each level for the ripped in 30?
You won’t be able to know exactly without a heart rate monitor, but I’d bet it’s really close to what I have listed here.

I actually have this dvd so I will get to it sometime this week and e-mail you! I have only done the 30min workout, but I will try to do the full one if I can handle it haha.

Okay, I did level 1 of Shed & Shred and it says I burned 308 calories with an average heart rate of 148 and max of 177. I hope that helps! I’ll try and do level 2 soon, but dang it’s rough!! haha

I haven’t done that one yet. I looked at the preview of it on YouTube and it seems to be similar to 6 Week Six pack in that you use weights and it has a lot of cardio in addition to ab moves. I burned 281 calories during level 1 on Six Pack (w/a 5lb weight), so I bet it would probably be similar. Killer Abs looks insanely tough from the preview! I’m going to have to check it out soon.

I burned 275 using 5lb weights, so I’d guess you’re somewhere around 250-275 as well. It’s really the cardio and compound moves that are burning the calories and not so much the weight used.
I need to go out and buy Killer Abs because a lot of people tell me how wonderful it is. I will try and get it sometime soon and get a calorie count up here.
