It has been so hard to get motivated to work out lately. It has looked like that every day this week and is dark when I get home from work which makes me yawn and want to get ready for bed just thinking about it. It’s really hard to want to go to the gym when it’s so miserable out and especially when there’s so many other things going on that you need to take care of.
The best advice I’ve found is from Bitch Cake’s blog which is to treat your gym time as if it were an appointment. I love this because if, in my mind, I have to go and can’t miss this then I will get there. Even though it is crappy out, if I had a meeting or something then I would be there no matter what and I need to apply this to my workouts as well. So.. on one majorly gross day (the day I took those photos, actually).. what did I do?
I ate some soy yogurt with pumpkin, grabbed my mat and water bottle and headed to the gym for a strength class. I was so proud of myself until I actually got there and almost wished I’d stayed home. Class was over 20 minutes late getting started because other classes had ran over. When I finally make it into the room, a lady accused me of stealing her spot in the room even though my mat and water bottle were there. She actually dumped her jacket on top of my mat and knocked my bottle over. I’m watching my water roll across the gym floor and she goes, “Oh, were you here?” For real? I’m not in the mood for drama and just say that yes, I was there. So she moves to another spot but sets her stuff up diagonally so she’s kinda facing me and proceeds to give me death stares through the entire class. Seriously.. it was crazy.
Then as we were doing chest presses on our steps, I manage to knock a weight over and it goes rolling and just narrowly misses this lady’s head and she screamed so. loud. I said I was sorry and she tells me I really scared her to which I say I’m sorry again and she just rolls her eyes. Good lord, I had some bad juju or something that night for sure.
After all that happened everything was annoying me. Especially the instructor singing along to Rihanna’s “Hard” and screaming “ya know this” and encouraging us to to shake our hips to the song while working our biceps. Wtf. I can barely curl this bar and I do not feel like dancing while doing it.
In the end, I was glad I went and got a good workout in. I came home and needed some comforting food and that always means potatoes to me. I had picked up this bag of purple potatoes while grocery shopping. I was curious to try them and while they are more a brownish color on the outside.. when you cut them they are the most beautiful shade of purple ever! I wish the photo did them justice because they were really pretty.
Pepper wanted one of those so bad. Haha.
I ended up making the recipe that was on the back of the bag. You fry up some minced garlic, carrots, thyme, salt & black pepper in 1/3 cup of olive oil. Then add one cup of water and let boil until the potatoes are tender and then melt 2 tablespoons of butter in. It was really good, but I regretted using so much oil because I had eaten so well that day. I’m not going to fret though because it’s better than the other comforting foods I usually go for.
Now I’m going to make some hot tea and get back to work on the freelance project that never ends. Hopefully this week will be a lil’ less crazy and maybe a bit warmer. I’m probably pushin’ it there.. but I can hope!
