Jump Around
One of my favorite cardio workouts to do is jumping rope. It’s perfect on those days the gym and workout videos don’t sound appealing and it burns serious calories in a short amount of time. What I usually do is jump rope for the entire duration of a song and then take a break for a minute or two and repeat for a few songs. I did this over the weekend and used my heart rate monitor to see how many calories I burned during each song.
Gillie Da Kid – Get Down on the Ground: 41 calories
Cadillac Don – Peanut Butter & Jelly: 45 calories
Dead Prez & The Coup – Get Up: 42 calories
Big KRIT feat. Ludacris & Bun B – Country Shit (remix): 44 calories
Kid Sister – Get Fresh: 33 calories
I left my heart rate monitor going through the breaks I took and burned a total of 291 calories with a time of 30 minutes. If you need some music for this try one of the pregame playlists on 8tracks. I’m addicted to almost all of those because they’re perfect for working out.
Weekly Love
Just a few things I’m loving this week…
Homemade Dog Treats » One of my goals this month was to make some homemade dog treats for Pepper and hope that he liked them. I used this recipe that Lindsay from Food & Do Daily told me about. They turned out awesome and he absolutely loves them. The recipe made a ton of small sized treats so we’re all stocked up. I’m not sure about the shelf life on them, but I have them in an airtight tupperware container so they should be good for awhile.
The Bulk Spices at Three Rivers Market » I love going here and getting a few of my usual spices and finding something new to try out (last time I got kelp powder & now I’m not sure what to do with it). That photo doesn’t even show it all as there are a couple of shelves underneath the counter as well.
This Playlist » I’ve been going to 8tracks and going through random playlists to find new music. There’s some really good stuff on there and this is one of my current favorites.
Other things that made my week » Upping my weight for strength class. I’m now using 10lb dumbbells.. pretty bad ass, I know haha /// the ask me anything section on Reddit /// starting Gilmore Girls from the beginning and watching while I do design work /// pizza for lunch /// taking a yoga class – it felt great to stretch for almost an hour! /// (non-extreme) couponing – it all adds up and I’ve managed to get a couple of things completely free /// The Dead Set – if you love zombies then this is the show for you!
Recipes that look amazing & I’m wanting to try! » roasted veggie & black bean baked burritos /// cheesecake stuffed strawberries via Priyanka at The Healthy Diary /// BLT salad
Have a great weekend!

I just pretend when she’s saying “you’re almost there, you can do it I believe in you, baby” that she is just talking about my workout haha
3. Big Boi – Tangerine
4. Kid Sister – Right Hand Hi
5. Massive Attack & Mos Def – I Against I
Food Diary: WIAW
This morning started off with a loud thunderstorm which made it so hard to get out of bed. The thought of breakfast motivated me to get up though. :]
My breakfast appetizer was a date with almond butter. Thank you to everyone who suggested this combo! It makes dates much more delicious!
I then had my usual breakfast of one egg, two egg whites and a toasted Ezekiel pita bread. I think I’ve had this same breakfast for around two months now. I don’t like to eat a lot or anything too heavy early in the morning and this seems to agree with me the most.
I also had a glass of iced coffee with unsweetened almond milk.
My lunch was some mixed stir-fry veggies with a bit of szechuan sauce. I also had a sweet potato and an apple that I forgot to photograph.
I got home and had a quick snack. Half a slice of Ezekiel bread and some Asian pear butter I received from Krissie over at A Philly Nerd Girl! We did a swap of local farmer’s market goods and she sent some awesome stuff!
Check out all this great loot! I’m so excited to try everything out. Greg & Pepper already ate the jerky. I usually make Greg eat veggies and tempeh sandwiches so he was really excited :] Here’s what I thought of the pear butter…
I loved it! It’s just a tad sweet but also a little tart which I love. It’s so different from anything I’ve had before and I just need to pace myself to not eat the entire jar. Thanks again Krissie! :]
After that I put on some sunscreen and grabbed my running shoes! It was a super long, stressful day at work and I really need to get some frustration out. I had a great three mile run. I kept a slow pace, but the weather was nice and I listened to Drake talk about his purple drink almost the entire three miles. This is my favorite workout song at the moment by the way:
Dj Khaled (Feat. Drake, Rick Ross & Lil Wayne) – I’m On One
Once I got home I decided to have some purple drink of my own…
Not exactly what he was talking about, but I enjoyed it. :]
I also had a smokey miso tofu sandwich with lots of tomato and avocado. I enjoyed a plum for dessert which was super good.
Now I’m here icing my knees while Greg does his thing on the computer. I’ve had knee problems in the past when starting to run and I’m just doing this as a preventative measure. Does anyone have any info on whether that’s good or bad to do? I figure it couldn’t hurt as I’m really afraid of injuring myself again. I love running so much so I don’t want to have to stop.
I felt much better after my run. Never in a million years did I think I’d be running to relieve stress, but here I am and I have to say it feels pretty darn good. Now I’m off to catch up on some tv shows and then head to bed.
Be sure and check out what everyone’s eatin’ at the What I Ate Wednesday party!

What was the best thing you ate today?
