Last Week and the Week Ahead
Last week I worked out for 4:37 and burned 1,948 calories. I am so proud of myself for last week because not only did I complete five straight days of Ripped In 30, but I got up at 6:30am each morning to do it! It wasn’t easy at first, but later on in the week I actually found myself waking up before my alarm and ready to get working! I did go to bed quite a bit earlier (around 9:30-10pm) but it was fine because by working out in the mornings it freed up quite a bit of my evenings to get things done.
Tomorrow starts week 2 of the challenge and I’m worried as to how tough it will be. The workouts get progressively harder each week and week one had me sweatin’ and out of breath at the end. This was after the last set of ab work and the end of the workout:
It’s no joke! I love it though because I am seeing changes just in one week. I’ve been eating really well though and drinking tons of water. I can’t wait to share the final results and photos, but just to show how awesome this is.. I started the challenge at 133.5 pounds and ended the week at 130.8.
I’m not one for fad diets and I can see how this may be viewed as such since it’s a 30 day program. I started this to help me focus and break through my plateau. I want to use this challenge as a means to get it right when it comes to portion sizes (my biggest problem) and quit with the processed foods. I really aimed to eat whole, quality foods last week and it shown.
By the end of these 30 days I want it to be a habit to wake up at 6:30am and get my workout in. I view this as an opportunity to think about my goals and realize how much hard work it takes to get there. I want to be strong, get my portion sizes in check and be healthy. I believe I’m on the right track and it feels good!
Last Week and the Week Ahead
Last week (5/2 – 5/8) I worked out for 3:35 and burned 1,357 calories. It was mostly walking, running and a couple of strength training sessions with my girl Jackie Warner. I love her workouts because they’re short, tough and you really feel it the next day. I highly recommend the dvd I linked to.
Here were my goals for last week:
1. More yoga. I realized how badly I need to stretch after running this 5k so I want to incorporate more yoga into my workout routine. » Nope, didn’t do this one. I stretched a lot, but no yoga.
2. Pack my lunch every day this week. I’ll share what I pack here even though I usually end up eating the same thing every day. Once I find something I like, I stick to it! » I did this one! I wasn’t lying when I said that once I find something I like I tend to stick with. Every day last week I had some variation of this stir fry with quinoa:
It’s so good, filling and easy to make. You can make a huge batch and eat it all week. It never gets boring to me because I can add different veggies depending on my mood.
So, I got one out of two goals which isn’t too bad. Here are a couple for this week:
1. Take a yoga class at the gym.
2. Wake up at 6:30 every morning and do a quick workout. This is a busy week for me and I won’t have much time in the evening to work out. I’d like to get it out of the way in the morning.
I think those are totally reasonable goals even though I dread mornings, but hopefully having it in writing here will motivate me a bit more!

Last Week and the Week Ahead
Last week (4/25 – 5/1) I worked out for 1:58 and burned 1,087 calories. Saturday was really exciting because I ran my first 5k!
Here are my results:
Time: 34:00
Chipstart: 33:35
Pace: 10:49
28/48 in my age group
I was really surprised that my pace was under 11 minutes. I’m such a slow jogger/runner and I really surprised myself! I was super happy with my time as I was aiming for under 35 minutes. I also did not quit running the entire time even though there were a few moments where I wanted to slow to a walk but I didn’t and kept going. I am so proud of myself! I’ll do a more in depth post on the 5k soon.
Here are a couple of goals I have for the upcoming week:
1. More yoga. I realized how badly I need to stretch after running this 5k so I want to incorporate more yoga into my workout routine.
2. Pack my lunch every day this week. I’ll share what I pack here even though I usually end up eating the same thing every day. Once I find something I like, I stick to it!
I think I will be able to stick to these goals. I need to find some different yoga workouts as I only have one dvd and it can be a bit boring doing the same workout day after day. If you know of any good ones please let me know!

Last Week and the Week Ahead
Last week (4/18 – 4/24) I worked out for 2:48 and burned 1,533 calories. I did lots of walking and jogging in anticipation for my 5k this weekend! I am so nervous and keep trying to visualize myself crossing the finish line with a great time. I’m hoping to be under 35 minutes, but I’m not a very fast runner so I’m really not sure how I’ll do. As long as I finish before the course is closed I will be happy! haha!
I didn’t work out over the weekend because I was busy preparing for having the family over for Easter. Greg & I scrubbed the house, bought food, mowed the lawn and a bunch of other stuff. We were really excited to have both our families over and it was really fun! We just hung out on the deck, ate, talked and had lots of coffee. I love being around fun people! Here are some photos from Sunday:
Greg hating the smell of vinegar from dyeing the eggs. haha!
I went the lazy route and got pizza for everyone. I added zucchini and asparagus to the veggie one and it was amazing! I also made a huge salad for all of us and a chocolate tofu pie which I will share the (super easy) recipe to soon!

Last week (4/11 – 4/17) I worked out for 4:28 and burned 2,118 calories. It was a great week because I started going to spin classes again and I really missed them. My gym changed the way their group classes are set up and they are now an hour long which accounts for the higher calorie burn than I usually do.
I also completed my weekly goal which was to go to Saturday spin. I hit snooze once and then remembered that I had said on here that I was going to do it so I made myself get up and change into my workout clothes. I so didn’t want to go, but once I got there I got really into it and was so happy that I went. Nothing beats good cardio to make you feel awesome!
Speaking of good cardio, don’t laugh because I tracked mowing on Sunday. I burned 322 calories in 37 minutes because our mower looks like this:
Greg insisted on getting one of these and I was a little hesitant at first but they work and take some muscle to get going! I get a little embarrassed pushing this thing around sometimes so I always make Greg do the front yard. I got started on the back yard and I was pretty sweaty and my heart rate was up there and the lawn looked super good after I was done. I was all happy until I realized I was locked out of the house with no car keys or phone!
I had told Greg to go on to the gym and I would finish mowing the back yard since we were running out of daylight. Well I’m out there mowing and he leaves a bit later but he locked all the doors! He said he wasn’t thinking and was just on auto pilot and did everything he normally does when he leaves. It wouldn’t have been so bad until I realized what happened and he didn’t show up until almost two hours later! I just sat on the porch waiting for him to get back.. thank goodness it was nice out. I think that was the slowest time has ever gone for me. I was so annoyed with him, but I decided to start talking to him again this morning. Haha!
Before all that crazy stuff happened, I went to the grocery store and bought some good stuff!
I normally buy similar stuff each week so this is probably looking familiar by now. I love fresh produce and am so happy to have more almond milk! I’d ran out and been using coconut milk in my coffee but I don’t like it as a creamer at all. It tastes really funky to me in both hot and iced coffee.

My only goal for this week is to keep it up with exercise and really focus on my diet. I’m excited for this week and getting outside and enjoying the weather. I see lots of running in my future :]
